Hello 2020.
It’s been one heck of a decade, so where do we even begin?
You’ve grown and learnt more than you could ever imagine and gone through more than the average person would throughout the past 10 years.
So here’s to you, 16 year old Megan who’s about to leave school and go through some fantastic years and some not-so-fantastic years.
Your biggest lesson and your hardest one too. But don’t be afraid to listen to what’s really going on inside your head.
Remember that only you really understand what is going on inside that head of yours and only you can do something about it.
Never settle for ‘okay’. You’re worth more than that and whatever you’re looking for right now will come and it’ll be right in front of you at the most unlikeliest of times.
You’ll act on instinct but it’s right. Your gut is usually always right.
It’s also okay to not do what everyone thinks you should, or go down the path of what everyone else is doing.
Not everyone has to follow the traditional relationship route and stop thinking so much about what everyone thinks about what you’re doing and the decisions you’re making.
It’s your life and it’s your heart. Nobody else’s business.
You’re the one who’s going to be affected the most so decide on whatever is right for you.
Ten more years of having one of your best friends right by your side.
There’ll be ups and downs and there’ll come a point where you’ll clash heads a little bit, but there aren’t rainbows without a bit of rain. Sometimes it’s ok to drift, just remain honest and it’ll all work out in the end.
Other friends will come and go, but there will be that small handful of individuals that you know you can rely on no matter what. Ones who you can tell anything and everything to without judgement and ones who you can call on whenever you need to.
Other people will pretend to care and only be there when it suits them but you’ve got too much of a soft heart to see it, until now.
When you go through crap times, you’ll be more surprised at who’s not there.
Small circles ARE NOT a bad thing. They give you real friendships with real people.
Again, it’s OK TO DRIFT! Some people have loads of friends around them and you are not destined to be one of those people, but that’s fine!
Just make the friendships that you do have wonderful and you’ll be just fine.
You will make some mistakes when you finish University, you idiot. But it all has lead you to where you’re at today.
You will really think you have it all figured out and some work situations may feel good for a short time but again, don’t settle.
You really do know your worth and know what you can do. You know where your talents lie and the type of role that you deserve. Stop letting your lack of confidence hold you back.
Also, with this blog, girl do this stuff for you!
You’ll have some amazing years with it, where you’ll be obsessed with lipsticks and the opportunities will come a-plenty. Then you’re passions will change and THAT’S ok.
You don’t have to keep on writing about makeup for the views because you didn’t start because of that.
You’ve always wanted it to just be a place for you and you’ve wrote these things for the best part of a decade so just keep it real and you’ll still enjoy the pieces you do get to create.
Oh and stop caring so much about BLOODY INSTAGRAM.
Just like everyone else, you’ve changed this decade.
Some people will like it, some people won’t. But you will LOVE the changes that you go through, even though you may not see it at first.
You’ll go through hella phases of absolutely despising yourself but you’ll slowly (you’re still learning!) start to accept and love who you are.
You’ll go through some really tough times in your head. Fighting against yourself is going to be a regular occurrence, but with some therapy, big life lessons and working on yourself you’ll come through everything stronger.
You’ll question everything and nothing is ever in your mind for just a second.
But girl, that is just how you are wired & you learn to work with it instead of against it.
So to that 16-year old girl who thinks she’s got it all figured out, you have some way to go. It ain’t all gonna be pretty but it’ll be worth it to get to where you are right now.
