Beauty | MAC 217 Blending Brush

My eye make-up for the past couple of years has been a simple slick of eyeliner and coats and coats of mascara. If I ever applied eyeshadow, it would be for a night out and straight up 'black all over'. It's safe to say that it looked horrific and looking back I wish someone had told me just how silly I looked! Panda isn't even the word...

I purchased the MAC 217 Brush earlier this year after hearing nothing but good things. Since then I've been wearing eyeshadow a lot more and it's made a huge difference to my eyeshadow application skills. Whether it be a sweep of a neutral all over the lid or a full-on blended smokey eye, this brush has changed how my eye makeup looks completely!

If I want to wear a shadow during the day, I'll go for a really soft look. The 217 is of the perfect density for a subtle wash of colour all over the lid. I'll usually go for a colour like Woodwinked by MAC, a beautiful bronze with gold shimmer running through it. However, for nights out I like to take my eye make-up to a whole new level with the Urban Decay 'Naked 2' Palette. The 217 really shines when it comes to creating a smokey eye and blending three or four shades together. It's size means it fits perfectly into the crease to help create depth with the right shades.

If you're new to eyeshadow and/or want to improve your skills, I couldn't recommend this brush enough. It's a tad expensive at £18 but it's so worth it. If you'd like to see some make-up looks using this brush please let me know what you'd like to see! Do you own this brush? Have you found a similar yet cheaper option?

  1. I bought my first MAC brush not so long ago, the 208 to help me with gel eyeliner. I love and and the 217 is definitely next on my list! At the minute the main eye brushes I'm using are from the Real Techniques Starter Kit and they are fab actually, I love the base shadow brush and deluxe crease brush :)

  8. The 217 is next on my MAC Wishlist (although admittedly it's a long as my arm...) I recently treated myself to the 242 brush and I love it - it's great for concealing and packing on eyeshadow, my review is here :)

  19. This brush is on my list. I use the crease brush from Real Techniques but it doesn't quite seem to cut it. This looks perfect! xo

  22. I loveee this brush so much!! It's a bit smaller than their black one (forgot the number of it right now) and so it's easier to be more presise with it. The black blending blush kinda just blends everything. This one is more accurate. My loyalty always lies with MAC for some reason. They just haven't let me down :)

  24. I've been debating whether to take the plunge and just get the 217 and it sounds like it lives up to the hype so this may have just swung it!

  27. I'm not much of an eyeshadow fan, now I'm thinking if I invest in this brush I might be. After all a good workman (woman) has all the right tools right?
